When you open your home to an individual with a disability, you are offering something of immeasurable value: a true sense of belonging and a place to call home.
The Host Home model provides the most natural and nurturing environment for individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities. As a provider, you are creating a safe, supportive space where they can thrive—something that may not be readily available through traditional care options.
For decades, individuals labeled as “different” were often placed in institutional settings, where they were deprived of one of the most fundamental human needs: a family-like environment. While this was not the result of intentional harm, it reflected the limited options at the time. Fortunately, in recent years, many states have recognized this gap and now offer the opportunity for you to make a significant difference by providing an individual with the closest possible experience to a natural, family home.
A Host Home Provider is an individual, couple, or family who agrees to open their home to an adult with a disability, offering a supportive and nurturing environment. To apply, applicants must be over 18 years old, in good general health, and willing to collaborate as part of a team to provide the necessary care and support.
