Residential Services

When you open your home to an individual with a disability, you are offering something of immeasurable value: a true sense of belonging and a place to call home.

The Host Home model provides the most natural and nurturing environment for individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities. As a provider, you are creating a safe, supportive space where they can thrive—something that may not be readily available through traditional care options.

For decades, individuals labeled as “different” were often placed in institutional settings, where they were deprived of one of the most fundamental human needs: a family-like environment. While this was not the result of intentional harm, it reflected the limited options at the time. Fortunately, in recent years, many states have recognized this gap and now offer the opportunity for you to make a significant difference by providing an individual with the closest possible experience to a natural, family home.

Why Open Your Home to an Individual in Need?

A Host Home Provider is an individual, couple, or family who agrees to open their home to an adult with a disability, offering a supportive and nurturing environment. To apply, applicants must be over 18 years old, in good general health, and willing to collaborate as part of a team to provide the necessary care and support. Below you can learn more about what being a Host Home entails:

  • Host Home Providers are independent contractors who receive a daily stipend, which is typically tax-exempt, in addition to room and board.
  • Each Host Home Arrangement is carefully tailored to meet the individual needs of the person being supported, honoring their unique personality, capabilities, and aspirations.
  • All Host Home Providers undergo a rigorous screening and selection process. The Wings, LLC residential team offers ongoing support to ensure a high standard of care for each home.
  • A thorough matching process ensures that each individual is placed in a home and family that offers the best fit, fostering a positive and supportive living environment.
  • The individual joining your home will have their own private room, be included in family activities, and benefit from the host family’s connections to the wider community.
